So far it has only been listed in the Instant news section as well as the Popular Articles section to the right.

It hit the front page back in March so it hasn't been here for a long time. Putting it back here should attract more attention to the list and help our community price their cards better.

Full Price list and Details

The full price list goes back to March 9th and has updates every 2 weeks or so til now.
It lets you track a cards price because it archives old prices and it's updated frequently so you never loose track of what a card is worth. That's very important for buyers and sellers and it's especially important for regular duelists when trading.

As for the details of the list such as when we update it and how we determine the prices; they are all listed on that page.

The list's details are re-listed here for convenience:

How Prices are calculated:

We look at ebay's Buy it nows specifically.

After searching for the particular card, we sort the list by lowest price, including shipping, and then we have our price!

Prices are rounded to the closest $0.50 or whole number.
We check every ebay listing to see the sellers rating and to double check if it's a gamble (dice game, random lot, etc.) If the ebay rating is less than 20, we disregard it and we obviously disregard price if it's a random lot(might not receive the item).

To see examples of random lots, check Crush Card Virus on Ebay. There are always sellers underpricing the actual card who sell for the chance to get a crush card without actually delivering.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Updates
We'll try to keep this list updated and there will be a corresponding date at the top that shows when this list was last updated.
Since prices won't change too much you should see an update bi-weekly or monthly at the very least.
If you want other cards added to the list, suggest them in the comments below.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

New Update - Card Quality

With the selling of massive amounts of bad or poor conditioned cards UniMetagame will adopt this policy:

It will ignore all lots for cards that are not in Good condition or better. If a card is said to be damaged or scratched noticably, it's lot will be ignored and we will go to the next lowest ebay lot.

Example: There were 2 lots by the same seller for a Crush Card virus. One was labeled as played or as they put it "Played (P): Can have a crease that is no more than half the card. Will have scratches. If card has small water damage it will be P. Card will definitely still be playable in sleeves. Card has been played with."

That was completely unacceptable so we went to the next lowest which happened to be by the same seller and it was described as excellent condition, which they said was, "Very Slight Scratches or minor imperfections around the corners." That we deemed was acceptable and so we choose to price Crush card at that new lots price.

~~~~~~~~~
Final thoughts
We hope you enjoy our price list and continue to visit it as we continue to update it.
We find it to be a very useful tool for the community and because of that we work hard to keep it up to date and accurate.
As mentioned on the original page, if there are any cards you wish to add to the list, simply add them to the comments here or the comments on the full price list and we'll consider it.
If it doesn't make it to the list we will still price the card for you and add it's price in the comments as a reply.
Instant News
To keep up to date as to when the price list has been updated simply check out our Instant News section at the bottom right.
Each time the list is updated we mention it in that section. This way you don't have to keep checking the price list to know when it has been updated.
We also mention updates to the site in the same section. And as always check out our forums where you can find us each and every week!
Favorite card in Ancient Prophecy 15 card preview? - Poll Results
(Our third poll has now finished and the results once again are a surprise. That's exactly how polls should be though and if you could always predict them there would be no fun in having them.)
So lets quickly get to the results and do a little analysis:
Of the 15 cards in our Ancient Prophecy Preview, which was your favorite?
Ancient Forest
20 (28%)
Flamvell Counter
2 (2%)
Jester Confit
7 (10%)
Turbo Cannon
8 (11%)
Turbo Rocket
3 (4%)
Other Card
30 (42%)
(Percentages were rounded down to nearest whole number, which created less than 100%. No one likes reading 22.4% or 10.2%. The exact percentage can be calculated by taking the number of votes for a particular card and dividing that number by the total votes which was 70. Then technically you have to multiply by 100 to get the exact number, but most people should visually see what the percent is simply by moving the decimal place 2 places. So Ancient Forest's exact percentage is 20 votes/70 total votes or 28.57%)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Rankings

They rank by vote as follows:
  • 1) Other Card - 42%
  • 2) Ancient Forest - 28%
  • 3) Turbo Cannon - 11%
  • 4) Jester Confit - 10%
  • 5) Turbo Rocket - 4%
  • 6) Flamvel Counter - 2%
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Analysis
My personal favorite, again in the interests of openness was Flamvel Counter but as you can see it only got 2 votes :D.
I also encourage all who participated in the poll to write in the comments which card they choose as the other card so we can analyze why they feel that card is the best of the 15 reviewed.
As we saw though, the Gladiator Beast's favorite new field card Ancient Forest, racked up a huge number of votes, taking nearly 30% of the vote.
Again that was a huge surprise, as was the large percentage of votes for Jester Confit. As mentioned in the article, there was a lot of support for Jester Confit although I felt most of the community might disagree. It's good to see that we all understand the amazing potential in that card as well as the obvious power reeking from it.
Imitation
They say Imitation is the greatest form of flattery or as Charles Caleb Colten put it, "Imitation is the sincerest of flattery."
Everyone here at UniMetagame then would like to extend a great thank you to our friends over at Yugiohforums.com because it seems they only want to flatter us :
They put up a poll like we did and amazingly enough choose the same exact question for it.
What also amazes us is the fact that they put up the same exact answers in the same exact order! Could this be mere coincidence? :D Of course not.
So again to our friends at Yugioh forums, we extend one more thanks and hope next time you give us some credit where credit is due. After all there was no mention of us in your announcement of the new poll:
1) our forumhome sidebar displays newest threads (this is different from newest posts) as well as a site poll and any additional links we want to post.
By the way, would it have been so horrible to allow non forum members to vote in the poll? We have no problem with it here and we track who has voted using their I.P's so it's fairly safe as well.
We just feel that the more input we get from our viewers, the better, and the stronger the community. To be fair they might have instituted that policy to strictly control votes and make sure there were no voting irregularities.
But may I remind them that it's not very hard to make 2 accounts on their forums and vote twice, or 3 times, or 4 if you wanted to. So even restricting voting to members only isn't the final answer to voting irregularities.
Regardless though, we were flattered that they came to us for content and hope in the future they give us a bit more credit.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

New Poll

Our newest poll is a powerful one especially before the new ban list. We ask simply, "Which of the following cards would you ban?"

The choices are:
  • 1) Monster Reborn
  • 2) Crush Card Virus
  • 3) Judgment Dragon
  • 4) Charge of the Light Brigade
  • 5) Heavy Storm
  • 6) Dark Armed Dragon
  • 7) Mirror Force
  • 8) Brain Control
  • 9) Torrential Tribute
  • 10) Blackwing Armor Master
  • 11) Rescue Cat
  • 12) Test Tiger
  • 13) Solemn Judgment
  • 14) Dark Strike Fighter
  • 15) None of the Above
* As an added bonus we are allowing as many choices as you like. So if you want 10 of the 14 cards listed banned you can vote for all 10.

The poll will run for about a month (29 days) and will close on the 19th of August.
If cards that you want banned are not on the list then comment below quickly and we'll change the poll. But once the poll has more than 20 votes it will be locked in and no changes can be made to it. So comment fast if you want a card on that list.

Remember that you can vote for as many cards as you want, if you want more than one card banned.

Also there are cards on there that probably no one wants banned, such as Heavy Storm, but we added them to the list simply to give people more choices and have most of the powerful cards on the list.

We couldn't have a list of powerful cards without heavy after all, so that was our reasoning for adding cards like that and torrential tribute; both staples in most decks. Again we know it's highly unlikely either of them will get high amounts of votes for banning and we also know most of the community probably doesn't want them banned; including us.

Until next time, enjoy voting and check out the UniMetagame forums where you can discuss the new ban list and always stay connected to us; 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Spotlight: My Body as a Shield

(Shining the light on the hidden gems within the game)

My Body as a Shield
(Click the pictures to see bigger cards and read the text easier)

The long awaited new Spotlight has come and today we will be looking at My Body as a Shield.
A large portion of the Yugioh community still isn't using this very versatile card while a small group of individuals continues to profit off of it's power.

Today we hope to bridge that gap and bring My Body as a Shield into every person's side deck, along with a number of people's main decks.

A bit of history before we start though. This card was originally released in the Magicians Force pack ages ago. Afterwords it was re-released in the well known Dark Revelations 1 pack.
Then it was brought back one more time in Championship pack 1.

It was a common in all three packs so it was pretty easy to obtain. Besides that though there are no other ways of getting this card in the TCG, so I hope people start stocking up on them now while they can.

And without further ado lets finally blow up the card text and see why this card is so powerful in the first place:

When your opponent activates a card that has the effect that destroys 1 or more monsters on the field, pay 1500 Life Points to negate the activation of the card and destroy it.

Some Rulings

1) The only catch or requirement when playing My Body as a Shield is that you have a monster on the field that will be destroyed.

It doesn't matter if other things will be destroyed as well, such as Judgment Dragon which destroys everything.

As long as one monster is being destroyed you can activate My Body as a Shield and it will Negate the WHOLE effect. So Judgment Dragon would be destroyed and all your cards would be safe.

You can also My Body as a Shield a Stardust that uses it's negating ability on one of your monsters, because Stardust also destroys the monster that tried to destroy it by their effect.

The same applies to a Dark Armed Dragon that tries to destroy your monster. Negate the effect and destroy the monster.

2) As far as Flip effects go, cards like Old Vindictive Magician and Man Eater bug can not be negated by My Body as a Shield because they go off in the Damage step. A flip summon is different though, and a flip summon with man eater bug can be negated by My Body as a Shield because you're not in the Damage step then.

3) Also cards that only have a chance to destroy you, like Snipe hunter, can not be negated by My Body as a shield, even if they successfully destroy you. This is for the same reason that Stardust can not destroy a Snipe, simply because it's not a 100% certainty which is a requirement for both My Body as a shield and Stardust.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Insurance and Peace of mind
That is the ultimate and most precious gift My Body as a Shield can give you.
There are so many times when attacking or even summoning seems deadly, but with My Body as a Shield, you don't have to worry about those times anymore.
Cards like Bottomless trap hole were notorious during the Yugioh National Championships, and they stopped a lot of duelists from clenching victory.
A simple My Body as a Shield though would have protected them and pushed the attack, possibly giving them an early victory.
The Duo of Destruction
I'd like to coin Mirror Force and Torrential Tribute as the Duo of Destruction. They bring huge shifts in the game and can turn it around completely if you time them right.
What are people currently playing that stops these cards? Well only 2 cards come to my mind and that's Stardust Dragon and Solemn Judgment.
But do you really want to pay upwards of 2500 or 4000 life points just to stop the Duo of Destruction?
You can't say you won't see these cards in play as almost all decks main them like staples. So what do you do against them? What do you do against one of the most powerful tag teams of all time?
One card is here to protect you, and it stops all fear from summon and attack. When you hold a My Body as a Shield in your hand you don't fear destruction. You don't agonize over what to do or what resources to give up to protect your monsters.
You rise above the fear, you meet the challenge, and you press the attack to victory.
A simply 1500 point sacrifice cuts any counter by the Duo of Destruction and helps keep the momentum on your side.
With the Yugioh tempo and game play as high as it currently is, a single negation can spell victory.
Why do you think so many people run Solemn in 3's? They know that a single negation, regardless of the cost, could give them victory and it's that power that gets Solemn mained at 3.
But why Solemn when most cards you would solemn, like the duo of destruction, can be negated with a My Body as a Shield?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Blackwings and Armor Master

I find the best Blackwing decks to be the ones that play My Body as a Shield.
The reason why is simply because Blackwings are a fast tempo deck that need as much protection against destruction as possible to get quick victories.

There remains another reason as well and that's Armor Master. Blackwing Armor Master is one of the most expensive and powerful Synchro's currently in the game.

It cannot be destroyed by battle and it can take down stronger foes with it's wedge counters. It also does not take any battle damage so life points don't matter when you attack to give wedge counters to your opponent's monsters.

It's weakness though is destruction. The Duo of Destruction eats Armor Master for breakfast. So do the powerful Lightning Vortex and Bottomless Trap Hole.

If you could simply find a way to negate those cards and press the attack for 2 or 3 turns, you'd ensure victory and force your opponent into a corner.

That's why My Body as a Shield is so powerful in that deck. An Armor Master with 2 My Body as a shields can usually spell victory by itself.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Final Thoughts
In a metagame where destruction is rampant and a turn can lead to victory or loss, My Body as a Shield is crucial.
When so many Solemns are played for that same reason, we have to ask ourselves, why My Body as a Shield shouldn't be mained at one at least.
When nearly every deck runs the Duo of Destruction, what is your answer to their annihilation?
Do you Solemn them and put yourself in a weaker position? Do you just accept it and move on?
Why cripple your field when a single card can protect it?
My Body as a Shield thrives in this metagame and will continue to do so in the future.
As long as massive numbers of destructive cards exist, My Body as a Shield will be your insurance that victory is not very far away.
Try it out, and see what it's like to have peace of mind when you press the attack and go for game. Flipping over that My Body as a Shield, ensuring victory, will feel pretty good.
The Duo of Destruction will no longer be a problem for you and if Crush Card Virus tries to wreck your field, you'll instantly have the answer for it.
My Body as a Shield has been abused for too long now, by the rare few that knew of it's power. Now it's your turn to use it against them and show them who's deck really is the best.
Buy some Insurance, gain some peace of mind, and press the attack, all thanks to My Body as a Shield. Negation never felt so good. :)
Remove which Yugioh Deck? - Poll results
(The results were a surprise to most that took part and a 3 week long run made it a strong voice to be heard. More than 300 people voted and they've shown just how hated certain decks have become.)
Probably the most interest poll yet, we take a deep look into our metagame and ask our community which deck they'd remove if they could remove one.
Not surprisingly we find Konami's themes at the heart of the problem; something we'll analyze in a little bit.
Let's look at the results after a long 3 week poll (June 25-August 15, 2009):
Blackwings
50 (15%)
Lightsworn
95 (29%)
Synchro Cat
42 (12%)
Gladiator Beasts
73 (22%)
Zombies
7 (2%)
Plants
4 (1%)
Skill Drain
30 (9%)
Other
25 (7%)
Votes so far: 326
Poll closed
~~~~~

Listed in Order
  • 1) Lightsworn - 29%
  • 2) Gladiator Beasts - 22%
  • 3) Blackwing - 15%
  • 4) Synchro Cat - 12%
  • 5) Skill Drain - 9%
  • 6) Other - 7%
  • 7) Zombies -2%
  • 8) Plants - 1%
History of the Poll

If you watched the poll closely you'll have noticed that Gladiator beasts were in the lead for a long while in the beginning but Lightsworn caught up and took the lead.

Regardless, there was no clear cut winner but we could say with high certainty that most duelists want either Lightsworn or Gladiator beasts gone.

Together they amounted for 51% of the vote, a sizable enough percentage to make assumptions off of.

My personal vote,in the interests of openness, was Gladiator Beasts.

Too much love for Konami?

If you look back at some of our older Konami based articles you'll find a striking similarity in a lot of the comments. UniMetagame was being criticized for not criticizing Konami enough and possibly giving it too much credit.

I personally believe the contrary and feel we gave credit where credit was due, especially for the turbo pack, gold series, and Raging Battle.

As of now though we've criticized Konami on one point consistantly and that is their themes.
They've asked us consistently in polls how we feel about them and consistently UniMetagame has urged that these themes come to an end.

So to those who want to hear some criticism of Konami, this is the article for you.

Top 3 - Not where Konami wants to be

If you look at the top 3 most hated decks Konami takes Gold, Silver, and Bronze.
Even Blackwings, a relatively new addition, that you would feel duelists might still love or still be attracted by is being shunned by the UniMetagame community.

So why does this phenomenon occur? Could Konami have made the top 3 simply by chance?

Strength of Konami's Themes

When Konami makes a team it has one thing in mind and that's simply "power".

Why power? It's important to Konami to make a powerful team because there is no reason for promoting it or for anyone to buy it if the team is weak.

So what Konami does is make synthetic synergy and synthetic strength for this team.
Why do we use the word "Synthetic"? Because most times the cards that bind this team together CAN NOT be comboed with any other deck.

You can't Charge of the Light brigade any other team but Lightsworns.
You can't Gladiator Beast Chariot, without Glads.

The strongest parts of the deck are held together synthetically, a new word UniMetagame would like to propose that defines this process.

That's one of the reasons why duelists hate themes; because they make older cards mostly useless as the newer team cards (like Judgement Dragon) CAN NOT be comboed with older decks, themes, and ideas.

This choice of Konami's is both a strength and a weakness to Konami's themes.

Weaknesses

As mentioned before you can't combo a lot of the older cards, however strong they may be, with a lot of the newer decks that are mostly built for you and require very little tinkering.

Therefore ingenuity is lost through the deck building process; my personal favorite aspect of Yugioh.

Laziness is also promoted as this synthetic synergy is put together with minimal thinking and the ability to win is brought about easily.

Sure if you want the ultimate form of a deck, it will require a lot more thinking.
But can you really say the best build for lightsworn wins more than the average lightsworn build by about 20% more of the time?

Probably not; and the most winningest lightsworn build might only win 10% or more than the average Lightsworn build.
That in itself shows that laziness can take you a long way and being clever won't account for many more wins. The same is definitely not true for most non-Konami decks.

Result

You get very powerful decks, that can be made quickly, and that require very little thought on your part.

You also get a large pool of your community complaining that said themes are making older cards useless. Just look at an average Konami themed deck.
How many cards are from the past that aren't staples? By past I also mean cards that are older than 1 year.

Most Konami themed decks might have 5, probably not more than 10 older cards. In a 40 card deck that mean less than 25% of your deck is taken by older cards that you paid good money for.

The other 75% or more, are cards that are less than a year old and that you probably just bought.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Other Decks
As for the other decks, the highest of which was synchro cat with 12%, most people don't seem to have much problem with them.
Synchro Cat might have done so poorly simply because of it's OTK ability, something that annoys people very quickly(hint at TeleDad).
This might be addressed in the future ban list as Konami also hates very prominent and powerful OTKing ability.
Power = Hating a deck?
After Synchro Cat we have skill drain decks which took the Aneheim SJC back in May.
Skill Drain decks are very powerful, yet they only scored 9% of the vote. Most of the community might also agree that Synchro cat and Skill drain decks have Blackwings beaten in most games.
So we know that power isn't simply the only reason people seem to start hating a deck. If it were Synchro Cat and Skill drain would have placed higher than Blackwings.
This point is mentioned to deter people from simply saying that people hate the most powerful decks more. That's something that completely isn't true as we look at this poll. Lightsworns didn't even make the top 3 in Anaheim. Although something important to note was the fact that the top 8 at the Anaheim SJC did include 5 Konami decks, 3 lightsworns and 2 Glads.
That shows that Konami's decks are powerful, but they aren't the most powerful, and they've become the most hated. That also stifles the argument that power automatically amounts to hate as the above poll showed how low Synchro Cat and Skill drain decks did.
If that's still not enough to convince you that power doesn't automatically equate hate, then read Konami's statement that came out yesterday that pronounces the winner of the Yugioh National Championships:
Kris Ferber from Albany, New York Outduels More Than 1200 Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s TRADING CARD GAME Enthusiasts to Win Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc.’s United States 2009 National Championship
Ferber Used a Rescue Cat/Synchro Monster Deck to Hold off Michael Kohanim
and Earn the Top Spot and Right to Represent the U.S.
at the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s TRADING CARD GAME World Championship In Tokyo
He was using Synchro cat and yet it only got 9% of the vote. Power does not equal Hate and the community wants Konami to recognize that these themes are hurting the Yugioh community much more than Synchro cats strong ability to OTK.
~~~~~~~~~~

Final Thoughts

There were a lot of preconceived notions on both sides that got shattered with this poll.
Our personal impressions were that Synchro cat and skill drain would place much higher while Lightsworn and Blackwing would place much lower, but that didn't occur.

We only hope that Konami somehow gets this message and starts propping up some of it's earlier deck types and themes. Ingenuity is the fuel that keeps Yugioh going and with it's loss will come the loss of a large amount of the Yugioh player base.

Check out our next poll which will run for 1 week (15th-22nd).

It asks simply, "Of the 15 cards in our Ancient Prophecy Preview, which was your favorite?".
Favorite can mean anything, from the strongest to the most unique or useful.

As you can tell we won't place all the cards on the poll, but we will place the one's we feel will get the most votes. Also if you feel one of the cards should be a choice to vote for but isn't, let us know in the comments.

Enjoy the next poll and keep interacting with us on the forums, where you can reach us 24 hours a day 7 days a week!

Ancient Prophecy - Key Cards in the set

(The Prophet foretold of the weakening of control decks, strengthening of synchro's, a new Solemn Judgment, and the return of Ring of Destruction. The prophecy was foretold and will come to fruition on September 1st of this year.)

Some info on the next set before we get started.

Releases: September 1st, 2009
Possible Sneak Peak Dates: August 15th, 16th, 2009.
  • 1 Ghost Rare
  • 8 Secret Rares
  • 10 Ultimate Rares
  • 10 Ultra Rares
  • 14 Super Rares
  • 20 Rares
  • 48 Commons
  • 10 TCG Exclusives
  • 10 OCG Exclusives
~~~~~~~~~~
Last time we introduced the coming set we previewed cards that we felt were very powerful and would change the very play of the game.
We'd single out a card and spend a whole article talking about it's game play and the tactics involved in using the said card.
This time though after an extensive overview of the Japanese version of Ancient Prophecy we found very few cards that could hold their own. The set itself might end up being useless to most trainers if the exclusive TCG and OCG cards in it do not compensate. *
~~~~~~~~~~~~
*(There are always a number of cards released in every American set that are new to the world. These are known as TCG exclusives or cards that only the TCG has. There are ten of these in Ancient Prophecy.

There are also cards released that only the OCG had and that are now shared with players in the TCG. Likewise there will be ten of these as well. Again every new pack released by Konami includes a number(usually ten) of both types of these cards.

Since these cards are not reflected in the OCG release they are a mystery and can end up making a pack much more valuable than it's OCG counterpart. For todays article we only reviewed the known OCG release of this set which does not include these OCG and TCG exclusives.)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nonetheless, there are still a number of notable and powerful cards that should be reviewed and this post addresses those. This will be a spoiler obviously and fair warning is given now for anyone who wants Ancient Prophecy to be a surprise.
But enough chit-chat, lets get to the 15 cards already.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ancient Fairy Dragon

The card on the front of the pack was an obvious first choice for us to review. Lets blow up it's card text so we can see exactly what it does:

1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters

Once per turn, you can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower monster from your hand. If you activated this effect, you cannot enter your Battle Phase this turn. Also once per turn, you can destroy a Field Spell Card and gain 1000 Life Points. Then, you can add 1 Field Spell Card from your Deck to your hand.

The first thing you're probably thinking is whether you can destroy your opponents field spells with this effect. The answer is yes; making this card a huge threat to the earthbound immortals.

Stats: It's stats aren't anything special at 2100 attack. It's also another seven star synchro making that 3 star tuner even more crucial.

Effects: Its other effect is the rush effect. You could literally revolve a whole deck around stalling your opponent, attacking directly, and burning for life points by tributing monsters. This as well as Dark strike fighter could be your last push to victory.

We don't want to over hype the effect too much though.
The inability to attack really ruins things because a battle phase is not a small thing to sacrifice.
With our fast paced game a lost turn can leave you wide open for a game loss or a series of moves leading to it thanks to your inability to attack.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ancient Forest
When this card is activated, if there are any Defense Position monster(s) on the field, that monster(s) is changed to face-up Attack Position. Flip Effects are not activated at this time. Also, if a monster attacks, it is destroyed at the end of the Battle Phase.
This is a field spell with powerful control abilities. It's ability to stall is clear and absolute.
If your deck revolves on getting a particular win condition, such as Final Countdown, then this card is a powerful ally in your arsenal of attack blockers.
Gladiator Beast - Beat Down
Another function of this card is it's amazing teamwork with Gladiator Beasts.
Your ability to tag out effectively negates the Field spells effect so you can attack for no cost.
Your opponent on the other hand will be wary to attack and might even have to use a solemn against your Ancient Forest.
We'll have to see how other decks do against Glad beasts with this new tool in their arsenal.
One of the few definitely powerful cards coming soon in Ancient Prophecy.
Black Shining G
When 1 Synchro Monster is Special Summoned to your opponent's side of the field, you can remove from play this card from your Graveyard to destroy that 1 Synchro Monster.
In a world completely swarming with synchro's, this card can find a place.
Obviously you wouldn't want to use this on a Stardust, but destroying a Goyo or a Blackwing Armor Master might be an amazing move that shifts the game in your favor.
It's effect is costless really, because it simply requires the removal of a monster from your grave, which isn't anything to worry about.
It's a Quick effect(aka Multi Trigger effect) so it can be used on either players turn; making it essentially more powerful.
Your opponent may forget it's presence but when you duel with it always remember it's there and time it's effect properly. A properly timed Black Shining G can win you the game; now that's power.
Owners of this card will worry about placement though and might use discarding cards like Lightning vortex to quickly remove this card to the grave where it belongs.
Fire Support - 3 cards
Flamvell Helldog
When this card destroys a monster of your opponent's by battle and sends it to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon 1 FIRE monster with 200 or less DEF from your Deck other than "Flamvell Helldog".
Explosion of True Flames
Special Summon as many FIRE monsters with 200 DEF from your Graveyard as possible. The monsters Special Summoned by this effect are removed from play during the End Phase.
Flamvell Counter
Activate by removing from play 1 FIRE monster with 200 DEF in your Graveyard. Negate the activation of a Spell or Trap card and destroy it.
Analysis
Saving the best for last, flamvel counter is the beast that makes playing Flamvell Helldog a must for any fire deck.
Flamvell Counter is so powerful people probably will end up using this engine without having a fire deck at all because the costless negation is very tempting and very powerful.
Also I know by now you're probably asking one question and that's simply, "What other 200 defense fire monsters are there?"
200 Defense?
You'll be startled by the answer. Decoy Dragon, a staple in Dragon decks, is one.
Here's the list of monsters we could find:
  • 1) Decoy Dragon : When this card is selected as an attack target by your opponent's monster, select 1 Level 7 or higher Dragon-Type monster from your Graveyard, Special Summon it and switch the attack target to that monster.
  • 2) Fox Fire : During the End Phase of a turn when this face-up card attacked or was attacked and was destroyed by battle, Special Summon this card from the Graveyard. This card cannot be Tributed for a Tribute Summon.
  • 3) Raging Flame sprite : This card can attack your opponent directly. Each time this card successfully attacks directly, it gains 1000 ATK.
You also have to remember that the above monsters are all targets for Flamvell Counter but a deck revolving around Flamvell Helldog could special summon many more targets because he brings out monsters with less than 200 defense as well.
That includes monsters like Nitro synchron that can be used for a synchro summon during your next turn. But we didn't make a list of those monsters simply because Flamvell counter was our number one focus. Just know many more monsters exist with defenses less than 200.
Fairy Wind
Destroy all face-up Spell and Traps on the field. Inflict 300 damage to each player for each card destroyed.
They key word in the above sentence is face up. If that word was simply gone we'd have a broken must have staple and most control decks would become twice as hard to play.
Still this is a very powerful card and one that will deserve to be side decked at the very least.
Any stall decks out there will be complaining about this card because a simple side deck can assure a victory for any good duelist.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Heterogeneous Conflict

Activate if all monsters on the field are face-up. Both players send monsters from their respective sides of the field to the Graveyard until they are each controlling monsters of only 1 Attribute.

There have been other cards with similar effects like this, such as rivalry of the warlords, but what makes this card stand out is that it isn't continuous.

This will become a great card for instant destruction. I'm pretty sure you need to be controlling a monster to activate this effect but it will be at it's most powerful when your opponent attempts to rush you.

Like most decks, a lot of monsters won't share the same attribute and instead of facing 3 monsters you could have your opponent down to 1.

Rush decks now have another way of being slowed down and the only catch is that you control a monster; something not very hard to accomplish.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Imperial Custom
Face-up Continuous Trap Cards on the field not named "Imperial Custom" cannot be destroyed. You can control only 1 face-up "Imperial Custom".
The only downside to this effect would be that your opponent might be able to benefit from this. This will probably be a long shot in practice though and probably won't be an issue.
It's obvious advantages shine though and control/burn decks can protect their defenses with a simple Imperial Custom.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Jester Confit

This card can be Special Summoned from your hand to your side of the field in face-up Attack Position. If you Summon this card this way, you can return this card and 1 monster your opponent controls to the owner's hand during the End Phase of your opponent's next turn. You can only have 1 "Jester Confit" face-up on your side of the field.

Right away this card parallels with the well known NeoSpacian Grand Mole. Like the mole it is able to lock your opponent if they start setting monsters in defense.

There is one catch though. It must survive your opponents battle phase up until the time they end their turn. If it can last that long you can use it's effect during your opponent's end phase.

Force the Attack

Most of you might not give this card another thought but look at it this way, you're forcing your opponent to attack.

If you have the advantage or need your opponent to attack, jester is the man to do it.
Also don't forget that sometimes your opponent won't be able to attack and Jester will thrive in that atmosphere where he can remove your opponents face downs so they are no longer a threat!

At the very least the jester should be side decked against certain control decks.

Free Tribute / Apprentice Engine

Remember that Jester can be special summoned in attack mode for no cost.
This makes him easy tribute fodder or fodder for a number of other purposes.
Again you don't need to use his second effect to simply special summon him onto the field for free.

It also has the added advantage of being a part of the Apprentice Engine. This now gives us another tool in our arsenal of spellcasters. Check the link above to learn more about the engine if you haven't already read the article. His special summoning ability alone makes him a key ally in most apprentice engine decks.

Did i mention the Jester is a Crush Card Target? Now do you still want to throw it out?
Of course not; now that you've seen how powerful the Jester is after this second look.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mine-Field
When this face-up card is removed from the field, you can add 1 Field Spell Card from your Graveyard to your hand.
Nothing too special. It's just a helpful searcher for Field spell cards that have hit the grave.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Skill Successor

Increase the ATK of one monster on your side of the field by 400 points for this turn. Also, if this card exists in your Graveyard, you can remove this card from play to increase the ATK of a monster on your side of the Field by 800 points. You can’t activate this effect the same turn this card was sent to the Graveyard, and you can only activate this effect during your turn.

A simple card with a simple purpose that can be recycled. It wouldn't deserve another look if it wasn't for it's reusability.

But simple doesn't have to mean weak and Skill successor can be a powerful card that works out to a plus 1 if you can kill 2 monsters with it.

Luckily, If I read the card right, you should be able to activate it's first effect during your opponents turn but you can't activate it's second effect until your turn. A small complication that's needed to help keep the card balanced.

Synchro Power with Turbo's

Turbo Cannon

"Turbo Rocket" + 1 non-Tuner monster
Once per turn, destroy 1 face-up monster on the field, and inflict damage to it's controller equal to half the monster's ATK.

Turbo Rocket

Tuner
If this card attacks, it is not destroyed by battle. After damage calculation, inflict damage to your opponent equal to half the ATK of the target monster's ATK.

Turbo Booster

If you have Normal Summoned a monster this turn, you can Special Summon this card from your hand. You can Tribute this card to destroy 1 monster your opponent controls that battled one of your monsters this turn.

Ring's Back

Turbo cannon becomes the TCG's first 3 star Synchro. It's effect can only be classified as devastating. Bringing back the pain of Ring of Destruction, we now have a cannon that will have the power to end games and punish opponents for ignoring synchro's.

It has zero attack so to bring it out means to end the game or be forced to protect it next turn.
We're fairly sure that Turbo Cannon will end the game most times in the hands of an experienced duelist.
The ability to destroy your opponents monsters at will is completely amazing and will change the state of our metagame.

Tactics to defend the Cannon

Use Heart of Clear water, Spirit Barrier, or Mist body, to protect Turbo Cannon.

Their effects listed in order are:

  • If the equipped monster's ATK is 1300 or higher, this card is destroyed. The monster equipped with this card is not destroyed as a result of battle or by the effect of a card that targets the monster. (Damage calculation is applied normally.)
  • While you control a monster(s), you take no Battle Damage.
  • The equipped monster cannot be destroyed by battle. (Damage calculation is applied normally.)
Rocket Boost

If you have Turbo Rocket and Turbo Booster in your hand you can instantly synch for a Turbo Cannon. Also Turbo Rockets effect on it's own is good enough to warrant it's play.

Turbo Rocket is an auto Ring of Destruction after an attack and drawing it will not be a dead draw especially if you can go for game.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Water-Hazard
If you control no monsters, you can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower WATER monster from your hand. This effect can only be used once per turn.
Another water support card that is just begging duelists to make more water decks.
I've already seen some amazing water decks and they were doing well enough as it was.
This allows them to speed up their tempo a bit faster, as if they weren't already fast enough.
The only downside to this, if you're an avid water deck builder, is finding room for it in an already crammed archetype.
If you can find room for it, Water hazard might be the little bit of speed you need to clinch victory and stake the water deck's mark as Tier 1.
Final Thoughts
I hope you enjoyed the 15 cards on display here and started thinking of ways to implement them in your decks.
We try to provide as much help as possible, so we hope you appreciate the time our team took analyzing Ancient Prophecy and siphoning off it's information.
Hopefully for Stardust Overdrive we'll be able to spotlight cards again. There may well be cards in that set that can hold their own for a whole article.
As you saw above Ancient prophecy had some very promising cards but just didn't have the content necessary to spotlight them all individually.
Hopefully this 15 card bonanza was a good way to preview the set, giving info to duelists about possible techniques they could use in their decks after the set is released.
We're looking forward to the Sneak peak and can't wait to see the TCG and OCG exclusives that await in this pack; just waiting to be revealed.
